Tragic Killing Over Market Space in Kisumu County

A woman lost her life in a violent clash in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, after a disagreement about a small market stall turned deadly.

The incident took place at Shauriyako estate on the evening of May 4, leaving the local community in shock. What began as a simple argument between two women ended with one being stabbed and rushed to hospital, where she later passed away.

The victim, identified as Silvia, had been setting up a makeshift stall next to an existing business. According to initial reports, the suspect, Jane Adhiambo Okeyo, who operates a hotel in the same area, became upset about the new structure being built so close to her premises. Words were exchanged as tensions rose quickly over the limited trading space in the busy estate.

In the heat of the moment, Jane reportedly picked up a knife and stabbed Silvia. Those nearby tried to help the injured woman and took her to St. Vincent Hospital for urgent medical care. Sadly, her injuries proved too severe, and she did not survive. Police moved in swiftly and took Jane into custody, where she is now held at the Muhoroni police post as investigations continue.

This sad event highlights the everyday pressures faced by small traders in many parts of Kenya, where competition for good locations can sometimes lead to serious conflicts. Local authorities are expected to look into the full details and remind people of the importance of settling disputes peacefully. As the case proceeds, residents hope for justice and calm in the estate, while family and friends of the deceased mourn their sudden loss.
