TRUCK DRIVER FOUND DEAD BEHIND THE WHEEL ON BUNGOMA - MALABA HIGHWAY

A long-distance truck driver was early Wednesday morning found dead behind the wheel of his vehicle along the Bungoma–Malaba highway in Amagoro, Teso North Sub-County.
Police say the middle-aged driver was transporting clinker to Tororo, Uganda, when a traffic snarl-up forced trucks to stop near Kocholia. When traffic later began moving, fellow drivers noticed that one truck remained stationary despite repeated hooting.
One driver who went to check found the man slumped over the steering wheel and unresponsive.
“We thought he had fallen asleep, but when we checked, he was already dead,” said a fellow truck driver.
The incident, which occurred at around 3 a.m., shocked residents.
“We heard hooting and were later told a driver had died in his truck. It was very sad,” said a resident.
Police moved the body to Kocholia Funeral Home as investigations continue.
Teso North Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Wesley Lagat said a post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
