Two Confirmed Dead as Sand Buries Workers in Webuye West Quarry.

Two people have been confirmed dead, while two others narrowly escaped death after being buried by sand while digging gravel in quarries at Maruti B village, Maraka ward, in the Webuye East constituency.

The deaths involved a buyer known as Wyclifee Masika and a gravel digger known as Evans Juma. Two other individuals survived after being rescued by local residents.

The incident has deeply saddened residents near the quarries, with many calling on the government to seal all open quarries to prevent similar tragedies. The area chief, Samwel Kisuya, has banned gravel mining in dangerous locations.

The incident was confirmed by the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) for Webuye East Sub-County, Rosemary Odeke, who urged citizens to exercise caution around gravel quarries and echoed the call to close all such sites in the area.
