Two Suspects Captured in Uganda Over Busia Murder
Two men from the country wanted in connection with the killing of a boda boda rider and the theft of his motorcycle in Busia County have been arrested in Uganda following a multi-day cross-border search.
Ugandan officers took the pair into custody after they allegedly fled into the neighbouring nation shortly after the fatal attack in Butula Constituency. Local intelligence confirmed the suspects were residents of the area, and one of them was already known to police for previous offences.
According to investigators, the two men allegedly assaulted the rider to death in Bujumba sub-location before escaping with his motorcycle across the border. Once inside Uganda they are said to have targeted another boda boda operator, leaving the second victim with serious injuries and making off with that motorcycle as well. The rapid sequence of violence prompted Ugandan security agencies to launch an intensive manhunt that eventually netted two of the three individuals believed to have taken part in the crimes.
Police recovered the motorcycle stolen from the rider in the country, providing key physical evidence linking the suspects to the original incident. Efforts continue to locate the second motorcycle taken from the Ugandan victim. The arrested men are expected to face criminal proceedings in Uganda first before being transferred to face additional charges of murder and theft back in the country.
The arrests occur against a backdrop of rising violent robberies targeting boda boda operators and a surge in motorcycle thefts across many regions. Such incidents have become a growing concern for both riders and law enforcement, prompting increased cooperation between neighbouring security forces.
