UDA Candidate Alleges Irregularities in Ol Kalou By-Election

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga has raised serious concerns over alleged malpractices during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in Nyandarua County

After casting his vote on Thursday morning, Muchina claimed that one of his campaign vehicles was set on fire overnight while transporting party agents in the Mugumo area. He also accused some individuals of attempting to bribe voters inside polling stations as voting progressed across the constituency. Despite these issues, he praised the overall security arrangements and encouraged high voter turnout.

Muchina expressed confidence that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would thoroughly investigate the reported incidents to ensure the process remains free and fair. He noted that he planned to formally report the matters to relevant authorities while emphasizing his commitment to following the law. The candidate described the voting atmosphere as largely peaceful, with encouraging numbers of residents participating after an intense three-month campaign period. He voiced strong belief that the final results would reflect the true will of the people of Ol Kalou.

The by-election is taking place following the death of the previous legislator, David Njuguna Kiaraho, in March. With 73,480 registered voters and 144 polling stations, the contest has drawn significant national attention as a key test of political loyalties in the region. Other candidates, including DCP’s Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru and Jubilee’s Wilson Kigwa, were also scheduled to cast their ballots throughout the morning. Muchina remains optimistic about securing victory for UDA in the high-stakes race.

As polls continue to close and counting begins, eyes are on how electoral officials will handle the allegations raised by Muchina and potentially other parties. The outcome of this by-election could signal broader trends ahead of future national polls. Residents and observers alike hope for a transparent process that upholds democratic principles in the country. The coming hours will be crucial in determining the next representative for the constituency.
