UDA Leaders in Busia Oppose Party Zoning

Busia leaders back party SG’s stance, push for inclusivity and open political space

Leaders from the ruling party UDA in Busia County have strongly opposed the zoning of affiliate political parties along regional lines, They warn that such a move could erode internal party democracy, affecting fair competition across the country.

Speaking at Kajoro Village in Nambale Constituency, the leaders backed sentiments by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar call against zoning political parties based on geography.they emphasized that all political parties should be given a fair opportunity to field candidates for every elective seats, from Member of County Assembly to the presidency.

"Just as our UDA National Secretary General Hassan announced and gave the opinion, that was the opinion of the party, not personal opinion. As a party, we are against zoning. There's no zoning. We are going to fill all the candidates from the MCA to the president. " ~ Stephen Buluma

Led by the Busia UDA County Secretary General Stephen Buluma, Amukura West MCA Dr. Boniface Erute, and political leader Maximilla Auma, they emphasized the need for fairness and transparency in the party’s upcoming nomination exercises.

"We have aspirants who have shown interest in standing and walking with the party, and we are going to ensure that there is fairness, transparency, and giving every aspirant a level playing field," Dr Erute

They also called on women across the country to actively seek elective positions, highlighting the importance of inclusive leadership.

At the same time, they've urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to register as voters in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.

"We call upon women leaders to register as aspirants and also compete on these political seats. Remember also to register as voters. "
