UDA,ODM Leads in Political Parties Fund Share

The United Democratic Alliance is set to receive close to Ksh550 million from the Political Parties Fund for the 2026/2027 financial year.
A Gazette Notice dated August 21 confirmed the allocation of Ksh1.4 billion across more than 40 registered political parties. This places UDA at the top of the list as the largest beneficiary of the public funding scheme.
The Orange Democratic Movement follows in second place with an allocation of roughly Ksh294 million. Combined, the two parties will take nearly Ksh844 million, representing a substantial portion of the total available. Jubilee Party ranks third with about Ksh128.9 million, while Wiper Democratic Movement is expected to receive around Ksh68.8 million, securing a spot among the leading recipients.
Other parties further down the rankings include the Democratic Action Party of Kenya with nearly Ksh30.2 million and the United Democratic Movement with about Ksh25.6 million. Amani National Congress and FORD-Kenya are set to receive approximately Ksh25.4 million and Ksh24.6 million respectively. KANU has been allocated close to Ksh22.9 million, with smaller parties sharing lower amounts ranging from Ksh10 million to Ksh13 million.
Disbursements will occur on a quarterly basis once the National Treasury releases the funds. Parties face a restriction limiting administrative and staff costs to no more than 30 percent of their allocation, ensuring most resources support grassroots activities. The fund draws primarily from national revenue, with the government required to set aside at least 0.3 percent for this purpose.
Beyond covering election-related expenses, the money aims to promote civic education, enhance representation of women, youth and persons with disabilities, and encourage broader citizen involvement in politics. Newer parties such as the Democracy for Citizens Party did not appear on the eligibility list. These allocations arrive as preparations for the 2027 general election continue to gather pace across the country.
