University lecturers have rejected a Sh9.76 billion government offer for a four-year salary agreement, leaving negotiations between university unions and the government at a standstill.
According to Nyakundi Report, the proposal was presented during ongoing collective bargaining negotiations but was dismissed by lecturers, who termed the offer inadequate.
The standoff has continued to disrupt learning in public universities, leaving students uncertain about when normal academic activities will resume as both sides remain divided over the proposed compensation package.
The lecturers are demanding better salaries, improved allowances, and enhanced working conditions, arguing that the government’s offer fails to address the rising cost of living and the increasing workload faced by university staff.
Meanwhile, parents and students are calling on both parties to reach an agreement and end the impasse. However, no new date has been announced for the resumption of negotiations, prolonging uncertainty across public universities.
