Violence Mars Evurore Ward By-Election

The Evurore Ward by-election in Embu County turned chaotic on Thursday when violence erupted at a polling station, disrupting the voting process and instilling fear among voters and supporters.
Amid heightened political tensions, Kelvin Mwenda, the chief agent for Democratic Party (DP) candidate Albert Kigoro, was assaulted by a group of suspected goons while he was performing his official duties of monitoring the election at Njarage Primary School polling station.
The attackers not only confronted and beat Mwenda but also vandalized the vehicle belonging to candidate Kigoro that Mwenda was using. Mwenda described the incident as a deliberate act of intimidation designed to hinder his legal role in overseeing a transparent process and to discourage voters from participating at the station.
Following the assault, Mwenda promptly reported the matter to Ishiara Police Station, calling on security authorities to launch a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice. The episode has raised fresh concerns about voter intimidation and the need to safeguard peaceful electoral activities in the ward.
