Wetang'ula Pushes for More Teachers in Rural Schools

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to address the unequal distribution of teachers between rural and urban schools.
Wetang’ula said rural schools continue to face shortages despite having a similar need for teachers, warning that the imbalance could undermine the quality of education in the countryside.
He said the government is expected to recruit more teachers this year and urged the TSC to ensure the new recruits are distributed equitably across the country.
“We are asking the Teachers Service Commission to ensure that teachers are distributed equally across the country. A child in a rural school deserves the same quality of education as a child in an urban school. When more teachers are employed this year, we want to see those teachers deployed to areas where the shortages are greatest.”~ Moses Wetangula
The Speaker was speaking at Ojaamong Primary School in Teso South Constituency, Busia County, during an event to support and empower boda boda operators from the area where he condemned cases of schoolgirls being impregnated, joining President’s aide Farouk Kibet in calling on boda boda operators to help protect children from exploitation and abuse.
Our children must be protected. We are asking the boda boda operators to be at the forefront in protecting school-going children. If you see an adult taking advantage of a child, report that person to the authorities. We can not allow our children to be exploited or their education disrupted.” ~ Moses Wetangula
The two leaders urged boda boda operators to work closely with the government and other stakeholders to identify and report individuals involved in the exploitation of schoolgirls.
