The lawmakers spoke during the first day of the Senate Mashinani tour while visiting Malindi Women’s Prison in Kilifi County.

They expressed deep concern for the affected girls, revealing that thirteen have already given birth, thirteen are still pregnant, and ten have left school as a result of the pregnancies.

The senators urged the Ministry of Education, the National Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to move swiftly to uncover the full circumstances of the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

Police in Bungoma have already opened investigations and begun a manhunt for the suspects. Webuye East Assistant County Commissioner Emmanuel Kenga has publicly committed to tracking down anyone found preying on minors and ensuring they face the law.

School authorities confirmed that the situation has seriously disrupted the education and well-being of the students involved.

In addition to addressing the Bungoma crisis, the senators called for stronger rehabilitation programmes at Malindi Women’s Prison.

They emphasised the need to equip inmates with practical skills and support systems that will help them reintegrate successfully into society after completing their sentences.
