AFCON 2027: CAF Officially Hands Over Flag to East Africa in Morocco

In a symbolic ceremony marking the transition of hosting duties, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially handed over the AFCON flag to the joint hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The handover took place in Rabat, Morocco, immediately following the dramatic final of the 2025 AFCON tournament on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The event occurred at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, right after Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1-0 in extra time to claim the 2025 title. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, alongside representatives from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, presented the flag to delegations from the three East African nations under the unified banner "Pamoja AFCON 2027"

This marks the first time in AFCON history that the tournament will be co-hosted by three countries, and the first time East Africa will stage Africa's premier national team football competition. CAF awarded the hosting rights to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in September 2023, recognizing their joint bid's potential to showcase regional unity and development.

CAF President Motsepe urged the hosts to deliver a tournament reflecting Africa's ambition, unity, and growing stature in global football.

This development comes amid excitement across East Africa, with calls to accelerate infrastructure upgrades, stadium renovations, and other logistics to meet CAF standards. The "Pamoja" initiative highlights collaboration among the three nations to make AFCON 2027 a landmark event for the continent.
