PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA — Nigerian physician and healthcare entrepreneur Dr. Richard Okoye has unveiled the Save-A-Life Mission Hospital, a technology-driven medical facility in Port Harcourt designed to deliver advanced healthcare without patients having to travel abroad.
The hospital combines specialist medical services with digital systems, including electronic medical records, AI-assisted clinical support, real-time patient monitoring, and a 24/7 situation room where doctors can remotely track patients' vital signs.
Its services include a digital cardiac and neuro laboratory, kidney dialysis and transplant care, spine and orthopaedic procedures, minimally invasive surgery, and an IVF centre.
The facility also deploys telemedicine ambulances, glucose-monitoring alerts, and the My Home Clinic digital platform.
Dr. Okoye says the project, conceived in 2014 with technology development beginning in the United States in 2016, is part of his mission to reduce medical tourism and strengthen healthcare capacity in Nigeria.
His wider initiatives include the Dr Save A Life app, which provides health information in English, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa and is designed to reach communities with limited electricity and internet access.
Technology entrepreneur Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Group, has also praised the facility's use of technology in healthcare following a visit.
Dr. Okoye has said he previously rejected a reported $20 million offer from a Dubai-based company in 2012 to continue pursuing his healthcare vision in Africa.
