Algeria and South Africa Offer to Host 2027 AFCON if East Africa Not Ready

Algeria has reportedly offered to step in and host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are unable to complete preparations on time.
South Africa has also informed the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that it is ready to organise the tournament if needed. These offers come amid ongoing concerns about infrastructure development in the three East African countries.
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania were selected as co-hosts for the 2027 edition in 2023 under the “Pamoja 2027” bid. The tournament is scheduled for June and July 2027. However, there have been questions about whether the required stadiums, training facilities, and other infrastructure will be ready in time. CAF President Patrice Motsepe has previously dismissed reports of a possible delay or change of hosts, saying the event will go ahead as planned in East Africa.
The offers from Algeria and South Africa show that CAF wants to ensure the tournament is successful no matter what. Both countries say they have the necessary stadiums and logistics to host the event. As preparations continue, all eyes are on the East African hosts and the next CAF inspection visits. Many football fans across the continent hope the 2027 AFCON will still be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania as originally decided.
