Didmus Barasa Leads Mayuba Stadium Declaration as Calls for Mudavadi, Wetang’ula Retirement Emerge

BUNGOMA —Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa on Saturday led a major political gathering at Mayuba Stadium in Bungoma County, where calls for generational change in Western Kenya dominated the event.
The gathering, dubbed the Mayuba Stadium Declaration, attracted a large crowd, with many attendees dressed in yellow as political leaders outlined their views on the region’s political future.
Barasa was among the key political figures at the event, where speakers called for a shift in leadership and greater space for younger politicians in Western Kenya.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula came under criticism during the gathering, with calls made for the two veteran politicians to retire from active politics.
One of the remarks made at the event was:
> *“Mudavadi na Wetangula waende retire, tumechoka nao, kazi ni kurudia darasa kila mwaka.”*
The remarks reflected the growing debate over political succession in Western Kenya, particularly the push by younger leaders to take a more prominent role in the region’s political affairs.
The Mayuba gathering brought together supporters and political leaders at a time when questions over the future leadership of Western Kenya continue to generate political activity across the region.
Mudavadi and Wetang’ula remain senior figures in the Kenya Kwanza administration, serving as Prime Cabinet Secretary and Speaker of the National Assembly respectively.
The Mayuba Stadium Declaration has now added to the political conversation in Bungoma, with leadership succession and generational change emerging as central themes in the region’s evolving political landscape.
