Former Kwanza MP Dr. Noah Wekesa Calls for Luhya Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Kwanza Member of Parliament Dr. Noah Wekesa has urged the Luhya community to unite and speak with one voice ahead of the 2027 General Election, warning that failure to do so could weaken the community’s political influence in future national politics.

Speaking on phone during an interview with radio journalist Peter Mukabi, Dr. Wekesa emphasized that the Luhya community must be politically organized in 2027 if it hopes to be taken seriously in 2032, when the community plans to field its own presidential and top national candidates.

Dr. Wekesa noted that without a clear and united political voice in the 2027 elections, it will be difficult for the Luhya community to gain national recognition and bargaining power in the next political cycle.

He also called on younger and emerging politicians from the region to slow down their personal ambitions and instead prioritize unity, stating that a consolidated Luhya vote will play a decisive role in shaping the 2027 election outcomes.

At the same time, the former legislator urged media houses in Western Kenya to play a key role in fostering unity among the Luhya people by promoting dialogue and highlighting the importance of collective political action.

Dr. Wekesa, who has served in government for over 30 years, said that as the Deputy Leader of the Luhya Forum, he and other leaders are committed to ensuring that the community understands its strategic role in Kenya’s political landscape.

He further assured that a high-level meeting bringing together all Luhya leaders will be convened before the end of the year to chart a united political path forward for the community.
