Gachagua Dares DCI to Arrest Him Over Fuel Scandal Claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly challenged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), telling the agency to go ahead and arrest him if they wish.

Speaking on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Gachagua said he would not be intimidated by statements from the DCI and dared them to take action against him. He insisted that before any move is made on him, the police should first arrest those responsible for attacking him and his supporters at public events in places like Limuru, Mwiki, Kariobangi, and Witima.

Gachagua made the remarks after the DCI dismissed his earlier claims about a missing KSh 500 million exhibit linked to an ongoing investigation into irregular fuel procurement at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. He had spoken about the alleged theft during a public address at Gakoe, saying he was simply explaining the issues to Kenyans. The former deputy president stressed that he has the right to freedom of expression and would continue to defend ordinary citizens without fear.

The DCI had earlier described Gachagua’s allegations as false, unfounded, and malicious, saying they were meant to damage public trust in the institution. The agency stated that all evidence in the fuel case is being handled according to the law and warned that it would take appropriate action against anyone breaking the law, regardless of their position. Gachagua, who leads the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), maintained that he has more information to share with the public and called for fairness in the handling of the matter. The exchange highlights growing political tensions as different leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
