Gachagua Hits Back at Ruto's "Petty Thief" Accusation Over Alleged Relief Food Theft 22 web pages

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly rejected accusations leveled against him by President William Ruto, who labeled him a "petty thief" accused of stealing relief food during his earlier career.

The claims were made by Ruto during a NYOTA funds disbursement event in North Eastern Kenya, where he asserted that Gachagua was previously dismissed from a job for allegedly misappropriating relief supplies meant for the needy. This exchange highlights the deepening rift between the two former running mates who were elected together in 2022.

In his response, delivered at an Enesambulai rally in Narok North under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) "one-term crusade," Gachagua dismissed the allegations as mere political propaganda aimed at discrediting him. He countered by questioning Ruto's moral standing to make such accusations, pointing to what he described as the President's involvement in extensive land grabbing across various regions, including Kibiko, Murumbi, Narok town, Mau Forest, and Lang’ata. Gachagua emphasized that those who criticize others should first examine their own records.

Gachagua further pledged that, if he becomes president, any land illegally acquired would be reclaimed and restored to its rightful owners. Accompanied by several allied MPs, he used the platform to rally support for his party and broader political agenda, framing the exchange as part of ongoing tensions in Kenyan politics rather than a factual dispute over past conduct.
