IEBC Receives Ballot Papers Ahead of Crucial By-Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has taken a key logistical step by receiving ballot papers and official forms at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Three pallets of materials, printed overseas in Greece, arrived on Monday morning to support the upcoming by-elections scheduled for this Thursday, May 14. IEBC officials invited political parties and media representatives to witness the process, underscoring their commitment to openness and credibility in managing the polls. The items have since been moved to a secure central warehouse in Nairobi for distribution to the relevant areas.

Focus centers on the Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, where voters will choose a new Member of the National Assembly. The seat became vacant following the tragic passing of the previous MP. Alongside this, residents in Porro Ward of Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County will elect new Members of County Assembly to fill similar vacancies caused by recent losses. These polls represent important opportunities for local communities to refresh their leadership.

With preparations now accelerating, the arrival of materials signals that the electoral machinery is fully in motion. Security and timely dispatch to constituency centers remain top priorities to ensure smooth voting across the affected regions. Political parties are expected to intensify campaigns in the final days, as candidates vie to represent their constituents in both national and county roles.

The by-elections come at a time when Kenya continues balancing national development initiatives with grassroots democratic exercises. Successful and peaceful voting on Thursday would reinforce public trust in the electoral body and demonstrate the country’s ability to handle targeted polls efficiently even as broader economic reforms take shape. Citizens in these areas now look forward to exercising their rights and shaping the next phase of local governance.
