As Ebola surveillance intensifies at Kenya’s border points following an outbreak in the region, the country has received a one-million-dollar grant from China to strengthen prevention and response efforts.

The grant, worth approximately Sh259 million, was handed over to the Kenyan Government at the National Treasury on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The funds will support Ebola prevention and preparedness measures, with a focus on high-risk counties and border areas, including Busia.

The grant will also support drought mitigation efforts as the government responds to the effects of the ongoing dry conditions in parts of the country.

The Ministry of Health says the additional resources will strengthen Kenya’s capacity to detect and respond to potential Ebola cases and other public health threats.

The support comes as authorities step up monitoring at points of entry and strengthen surveillance systems to detect and contain any suspected cases at an early stage.

The government is also working to enhance preparedness among health workers and communities in areas considered vulnerable to the spread of the disease.

Kenyans have been urged to remain vigilant, observe the Ministry of Health guidelines on Ebola prevention, and promptly report any suspected cases to health authorities.
