Kenya National Futsal Squad Heads to Namibia for AFCON Qualifiers

Kenya's men's national futsal team has departed Nairobi for Namibia to kick off their campaign in the qualifiers for the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026, hosted by Morocco.
Under head coach James Omondi, the 14-man squad arrived safely in Namibia ahead of a high-stakes two-legged first-round tie against the hosts. The opening leg is scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026, at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, with the return fixture set for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in Nairobi. The aggregate winner will progress to the next round.
The team wrapped up intensive preparations with a residential training camp in Nairobi, including a recent friendly win in Huruma, which boosted morale and sharpened tactics. Coach Omondi and the technical bench have expressed strong confidence in the squad's fitness, cohesion, and growing international experience as they aim to secure a breakthrough on the continental stage.
A victory over Namibia would see Kenya advance to face Libya in the decisive second-round qualifier, with the winners earning one of the limited spots at the 2026 finals in Morocco—where the hosts and defending champions automatically qualify.
This marks a pivotal moment for Kenyan futsal, which continues to develop steadily. The qualifiers involve 18 teams vying for seven available berths at the tournament, underscoring the competitive nature of the path to Morocco.
Supporters and football stakeholders in Kenya are rallying behind the "Starlets of the Court" as they chase a historic qualification and further elevate the sport's profile in the country. The matches promise intense action, with Kenya looking to capitalize on their recent progress and deliver strong performances away and at home.
