Market briefing · Sources checked 23 September 2026

Kenya’s next Treasury-bill auction is scheduled for 24 September 2026, with settlement on 28 September, according to the Central Bank of Kenya’s published offer. Investors have three maturities to compare: 91, 182 and 364 days.

The offer page lists previous average interest rates of 8.7837%, 8.9099% and 9.0566%, respectively. These describe the preceding auctions. They are not the results of the September 24 auction, which had not taken place when this briefing was prepared. See CBK’s offer and results page.

Read the maturity before the yield

Treasury bills are bought below their face value and redeemed at face value on maturity. CBK allows applications through DhowCSD, with custodial routes also available through commercial and investment banks. Its investor guide explains bidding, results and settlement.

For a business holding money for stock, school fees or a planned purchase, the useful first question is when that money will be needed. A higher quoted annual yield does not make a longer commitment suitable for every cash-flow plan.

What to check after the auction

Read the accepted rate for the maturity you selected, then check your own allocation and payment instructions. An advertised offer does not guarantee that every bid will be accepted in full.

Keep the offer date, maturity, amount payable and settlement deadline together in your records. Comparing only the headline percentage can obscure the actual commitment. This is a market briefing, not a recommendation to buy government securities.
