Kindiki Firmly Rejects Succession Speculation: 'The DP Seat Is Not Going Anywhere'

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly dismissed ongoing discussions about potential changes to the deputy presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking after an induction service for Bishop Doreen Mwathe of the Methodist Church in Kirigara, Central Imenti, Meru County, on February 15, 2026, Kindiki asserted his unwavering commitment to his current role. He emphasized that he remains fully focused on supporting President William Ruto's bid for a second term while delivering tangible development projects to Kenyans.

Kindiki directly addressed rumors, particularly those linked to ODM's interest in the position, by declaring, “I am the Deputy President. This seat is going nowhere and when we are done with the second term we will progress ahead in search for the higher office.” He positioned himself as an experienced politician who prioritizes action over constant political chatter, stressing that leadership should be judged by real results for the people rather than daily speculation.

Highlighting progress under the current administration, Kindiki pointed to achievements in Meru County, such as road improvements, upgrading Meru Referral Hospital to Level 6 status, redesigning Nithi Bridge, constructing the massive Gakoromone Modern Market, and completing Mariene University. He also credited President Ruto's interventions for the steady decline in fuel prices since 2022, including a recent 4-shilling reduction, underscoring a commitment to economic relief and national development over divisive succession debates.
