Lee Kinyanjui Plans to Resign from Cabinet to Contest Nakuru Governor Seat

Lee Kinyanjui, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, is reportedly planning to resign from President William Ruto’s government.
Reliable sources indicate that he intends to leave his position soon and join the Democratic Congress Party (DCP). This move is seen as preparation for his return to county politics in Nakuru.
Kinyanjui, who served as Nakuru Governor from 2017 to 2022, is expected to contest for the governor’s seat in the 2027 elections. His planned comeback is likely to set up a strong contest against the current Governor, Susan Kihika. The development has already created excitement among his supporters in the county, who view him as a strong candidate with proven experience.
Many residents credit Kinyanjui with playing a key role in the efforts that led to Nakuru being elevated to city status. His backers have started mobilising early, describing his potential return as a positive step for the county’s development. The move is also being watched closely as it could point to shifting political alignments within the broader government.
Political observers believe the resignation points to growing divisions within the current government. It could also influence how alliances are formed as the country heads towards the next general election. As Kinyanjui prepares for the campaign, attention will remain focused on Nakuru, where his comeback is expected to change the local political dynamics in the coming months.
