Manchester United's Patrick Dorgu Faces 10-Week Layoff Due to Hamstring Injury

Manchester United have suffered a significant blow with young Danish defender Patrick Dorgu set to be sidelined for around 10 weeks after scans confirmed a hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old picked up the problem during the closing stages of United's impressive 3-2 Premier League victory over league leaders Arsenal on Sunday. Dorgu had been in excellent form, scoring United's second goal with a powerful strike from the edge of the box in that match. He limped off late on, with interim head coach Michael Carrick initially hoping it was just cramp.

However, further assessments revealed the issue to be more serious. Reports from reliable sources, including The Athletic, indicate that the Denmark international could miss up to 10 weeks, potentially ruling him out until after the March international break. This timeline would see him absent for United's next eight Premier League fixtures, with a possible return around mid-April, such as the home game against Leeds United on April 11.

Dorgu, who joined Manchester United from Italian side Lecce about a year ago, has thrived in an advanced left-sided attacking role under Carrick's management. The in-form wing-back has contributed goals in recent big wins, including against Manchester City and his strike against Arsenal.

His absence is a major setback for United, who have been relying on his contributions in both defense and attack. It may open up more opportunities for players like Matheus Cunha, who came off the bench to score the winner against Arsenal in the most recent game and has featured prominently in recent squads.

Dorgu is also expected to be a key part of Denmark's squad for the World Cup play-offs during the March international window, but his recovery will now be the priority to ensure he can return fully fit.
