Millicent Omanga Tells President Ruto: “Mt Kenya is Gone”

Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has sent a strong message to President William Ruto, warning that the Mt Kenya region has turned against him.
Speaking on Friday, 27 March 2026, Omanga said, “President Ruto should know that Mt Kenya is gone.” Her remarks reflect the growing political shift in the region that was once a strong support base for the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Omanga, who has been vocal in recent months, accused the government of neglecting the interests of Mt Kenya voters. She claimed that many residents now feel betrayed and are ready to support other leaders, particularly former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who hails from the area. Her statement comes amid ongoing tensions between President Ruto and Gachagua, with several political events and rallies being held in the region to mobilise against the government.
This latest comment adds to the list of voices from Mt Kenya openly distancing themselves from Ruto. It follows recent activities by Gachagua, including hosting TikTokers in Nyeri and public statements from other local leaders. Many political observers believe the Mt Kenya vote will be hotly contested ahead of the 2027 General Election, and statements like Omanga’s show that the battle for the region’s support has already begun.
