Political Winds Shift in Busia as KUPPET Backs Otuoma

As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the next election, the leadership of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Busia County has publicly declared its support for Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma’s bid for a second term.
Led by KUPPET Busia County Executive Secretary Charles Mukhwana, the union leaders said they were prepared to support Dr. Otuoma, citing his administration’s efforts to implement development projects across the county.
"As the leadership of KUPPET in Busia County, we have taken note of the development initiatives being undertaken by Governor Paul Otuoma’s administration. We believe in supporting leaders who demonstrate commitment to improving the lives of our people. As teachers and stakeholders in education, we are ready to work with the governor and support his bid for a second term.” ~ Teachers
The leaders said their position was informed by what they described as the Governor’s commitment to development and his engagement with various stakeholders in the county.
"We have seen efforts by the county government to invest in development and improve services for the people of Busia. As KUPPET leaders, we believe that dialogue and partnership with the county government are important in addressing issues affecting teachers and the education sector. We therefore stand ready to support Governor Otuoma as he seeks a second term.” ~
KUPPET official Ediga Muliro also spoke on the union’s position, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation between the county government and education stakeholders in addressing issues affecting teachers and the wider education sector.
"Our position is based on the need for continuity in development and stronger cooperation between the county government and education stakeholders. We want to see the projects that have been started completed while also ensuring that the interests and welfare of teachers continue to receive attention. We believe Governor Otuoma deserves our support for a second term, " ~ Edgar Muliro
On his part, Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma said his administration would continue working closely with the national government to complete development projects that have already been initiated across Busia County.
The governor also pledged to support and collaborate with KUPPET as the union continues to advocate for and serve the interests of its members.
"appreciate the confidence and support expressed by the KUPPET leadership in Busia County. My administration will continue working closely with the national government and other stakeholders to ensure that development projects already initiated are completed and delivered to the people. We will also continue engaging with KUPPET and other education stakeholders to address issues affecting teachers and strengthen the education sector in Busia County.” ~ Dr Paul Otuoma
The endorsement adds to the emerging political conversations in Busia as leaders and different interest groups begin to position themselves ahead of the next electoral contest.
