President Ruto Describes Broad-Based Government as a Deliberate Move to Unite Kenyans

President William Ruto has defended the formation of the broad-based government, saying it was created intentionally to bring Kenyans together and ensure no one is left behind in national development.
Speaking on April 13, 2026, at the Kisii State Lodge during a four-day working visit to Kisii and Nyamira counties, the President addressed grassroots leaders from the two regions. He stressed that the arrangement was not an accident but a planned step towards fostering unity and speeding up progress across the country.
In his remarks, President Ruto explained that the broad-based pact aims to create an inclusive environment where all communities can benefit from government initiatives. “When we formed the broad-based government, it was not a mistake, it was deliberate because we want to make sure that no Kenyan is left behind, and it is my prayer that it will bring the people of Kenya together,” he said. He called on leaders and citizens to work collaboratively, noting that the success of the nation depends on everyone’s contribution and that changing the country requires collective effort.
The President used the occasion to highlight ongoing and upcoming development projects in the region as evidence of the government’s commitment. These include the construction of an international standard stadium in Kisii to be completed in nine months at a cost of Sh900 million, the expansion of Kisii airport with a new terminal building, and an investment of Sh27 billion in affordable housing, modern markets, and other facilities. He expressed confidence that such projects, if fully implemented, would help transform Kenya into a first-world nation.
The broad-based government, which brings together different political groups under a shared agenda, has been presented as a way to promote stability, cooperation in Parliament, and inclusive growth. While addressing local leaders, President Ruto urged continued partnership to achieve lasting change. The visit also focused on launching key road and market construction projects, showing the practical side of the government’s efforts to deliver development at the grassroots level. Many observers see this approach as an attempt to heal past divisions and focus on common national goals.
