Savula Defends G-G Oil Deal Amid Gachagua-Museveni Debate

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has defended the government-to-government (G-G) oil importation agreement, dismissing allegations that the deal is being used to siphon public funds.
Savula described the claims as unfounded and accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of using the controversy to discredit the Kenya Kwanza administration and strain Kenya’s diplomatic relations with neighbouring Uganda.
The debate over the G-G oil arrangement was reignited after Gachagua cited remarks by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Uganda’s previous fuel procurement arrangements through Kenya. Gachagua has argued that Museveni’s comments support concerns he has previously raised over the role of intermediaries in Kenya’s petroleum importation system.
Museveni’s remarks have since sparked renewed political discussion in Kenya, with Gachagua using the issue to question the transparency of the oil deal and the involvement of private players. Savula, however, has rejected the interpretation being placed on the remarks, maintaining that such matters should not be used to create tensions between Kenya and Uganda.
Speaking after attending Sunday Mass at Chakol Catholic Church in Teso South Constituency, Savula said any concerns or disputes surrounding the oil importation deal should be addressed through diplomatic channels.
He urged leaders to avoid statements that could undermine the relationship between Kenya and Uganda, emphasizing the need for dialogue in resolving issues arising from the agreement.
