Senior Counsel Nelson Havi Joins Rigathi Gachagua's DCP Party, Eyes Westlands MP Seat in 2027.

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent Kenyan lawyer and former President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Nelson Havi, has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The announcement came on Wednesday when Havi was spotted at the DCP party offices in Lavington, Nairobi, donning the party's regalia alongside Gachagua. The move marks Havi's shift from his previous affiliation and signals his renewed push into electoral politics.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Rigathi Gachagua warmly welcomed Havi, praising his expertise and highlighting the strategic value of having strong legal professionals in the party.

"DCP party requires great legal minds for legislation, representation, and oversight. I am happy to welcome Nelson Havi, one of the country's greatest legal minds, to walk with us in his quest to represent the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly," Gachagua said.

He further described the DCP as "the home of progressive professionals who desire political leadership," emphasizing the party's focus on attracting talent from fields like law, economics, and policy to strengthen its agenda in Parliament.

Havi, a Senior Counsel (SC), has confirmed his intention to contest the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections under the DCP banner. He previously ran for the same seat in 2022 on a UDA ticket but was unsuccessful against the incumbent, Tim Wanyonyi.

The development is seen as a boost for Gachagua's emerging political vehicle, which has been positioning itself as an alternative platform for professionals and those disillusioned with the current ruling coalition. Havi's high-profile entry is expected to enhance the party's credibility in legal and legislative matters, while also potentially reshaping dynamics in Nairobi's competitive Westlands constituency.

However, the move has already drawn mixed reactions. Some political figures, including Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, have questioned the feasibility of Havi winning the seat on the DCP ticket, describing it as overly optimistic in the current political landscape.

Havi's defection and alignment with Gachagua underscore the fluid nature of Kenyan politics as parties and individuals reposition themselves well in advance of the next general election cycle.

The DCP continues to attract attention as Gachagua builds momentum for what he positions as a movement focused on citizen empowerment, accountability, and inclusive leadership.
