SHA Commences Disbursement of Ksh11.1 Billion to Clear Approved Healthcare Claims

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has started releasing Ksh11.1 billion to contracted healthcare providers across Kenya to settle verified and approved claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

The process began on Friday, March 13, 2026, with funds being transferred in scheduled batches to ensure orderly and efficient payments. This initiative aims to bolster healthcare facilities, sustain quality medical services, and reinforce the government's universal health coverage efforts through the SHIF program.

Payments are expected to continue throughout the week and conclude by Thursday, March 19, 2026. All successfully processed claims submitted by empanelled facilities will be honored during this cycle. Healthcare providers have been urged to exercise patience, accounting for batch processing times and standard inter-bank clearing delays, and to refrain from raising inquiries about pending payments until after the cycle ends.

In a statement, SHA Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi emphasized the agency's commitment to transparency and support. She noted, "Should any facility not receive payment for their approved claims by the conclusion of this cycle, our dedicated support teams will be readily available from Friday, 20th March 2026, to provide the necessary clarifications and assist with reconciliations." This disbursement represents a significant step in addressing outstanding reimbursements and maintaining the stability of Kenya's healthcare delivery system.
