Sifuna claims flight details for Kakamega visit was leaked to Interior ministry.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has alleged a serious security breach during his Linda Mwananchi political tour to Kakamega County on February 21, 2026.
According to Sifuna, the group—including fellow ODM figures such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka—was booked on commercial flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, originally destined for Kisumu International Airport. He claimed the airline improperly shared their flight itinerary with officials at the Ministry of Interior, whom he referred to as "ghouls," thereby endangering the delegation's safety. Upon arrival plans, goons reportedly barricaded Kisumu Airport, forcing the group to divert and land at Kakamega Airport instead.
At the subsequent rally held at Amalemba Grounds in Kakamega, tensions escalated when a teargas canister was lobbed shortly after Sifuna began speaking, though the event continued amid crowd control efforts. Sifuna condemned the incident and accused authorities of orchestrating disruptions to sabotage the mobilization drive. He posted on X: "We were all booked on commercial flights from JKIA. The Airlines shared our itinerary with the ghouls in the Ministry of Interior knowing full well they were endangering our safety." He further demanded an urgent explanation from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) on how passengers' safety was compromised at Kisumu Airport and why goons were permitted to block access.
The allegations come amid heightened political friction surrounding the Linda Mwananchi nationwide campaign by Sifuna's ODM faction, which opposes aspects of the government's broad-based arrangement and seeks to rally citizens against perceived threats to rights and democracy. Western Regional Police Commander Isaak Mahoud had previously noted that no formal notification was received for the rally—only information from social media—and security would be provided if requested. Sifuna and his allies reaffirmed their resolve to press on with the tour despite the challenges, vowing not to be deterred by what they describe as targeted interference. No immediate response from the Ministry of Interior, KAA, or the airline has been reported in connection to these claims.
