Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi Records Statement at Parliament Police Station Over Assault in Kisumu

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi on Tuesday visited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations office at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi to formally record a statement regarding his recent assault in Kisumu.

He was accompanied by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, along with other members of the Linda Wanchi team. The move comes about a week after the incident, which left the senator with serious injuries that required him to be airlifted to a hospital in Nairobi for treatment.

The attack took place in Kisumu when Senator Osotsi was ambushed by a group of armed young men. According to his account, he initially thought the youths were approaching to greet him, but they suddenly turned violent and began hitting him. The assault happened in broad daylight and was captured on CCTV footage, which has since circulated widely. Osotsi sustained injuries that led to his hospitalization, though he has now been discharged and is recovering.

Leaders accompanying him expressed frustration over the slow pace of investigations. They alleged that despite clear evidence, including images of the attackers, and information provided by local residents that led to the arrest of three suspects, there appeared to be delays and possible interference from higher offices. Governor Orengo and Senator Sifuna have publicly demanded swift action and accountability, warning that failure to address such attacks undermines law and order.

Recording the statement at Parliament is seen as a step to escalate the matter and ensure a thorough probe at the national level. Three suspects linked to the incident remain in custody after a court extended their detention by seven days to allow investigators more time. The case has sparked political tension, with calls for justice growing louder. Senator Osotsi and his colleagues hope the formal recording will lead to quicker arrests of all those involved and prevent similar attacks on public leaders in the future.
