A School In Kakamega Scores 34E's ,134 D+

Eshinutsa Secondary School in Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega County, has drawn widespread attention and concern following the release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results
Out of 143 candidates who sat for the national exams, a staggering 34 students scored an E grade—the lowest possible—while the overwhelming majority, 134 candidates, achieved D+ or below. The school's mean score stands at a low 2.53, reflecting a challenging performance across the board.
Only five candidates qualified for direct university placement, with the top performer securing a commendable B plain grade amid the otherwise dismal results.
The outcome has sparked surprise and discussion on social media platforms and local education circles, particularly as it contrasts sharply with stronger showings from other schools in Kakamega County, where institutions like Kakamega High School, Butere Girls, and various private academies posted mean scores well above 8 and high university transition rates
Comments online question factors behind the poor showing, including whether adequate learning took place, potential examination irregularities, or underlying issues such as resource constraints in a sub-county day school. Some observers note that the school, a public mixed day institution with over 600 students overall, had reportedly performed better in previous years, making the sharp decline a point of particular interest.
