Bumula MP Jack Wamboka Rejects Wetang’ula’s Presidential Ambitions, Urges Luhyas to Field Own Candidate in 2027

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has strongly dismissed reports of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula eyeing the presidency in 2032, describing the repeated claims as empty political talk lacking any real national backing or strategic plan.

According to Wamboka, Wetang’ula’s frequent declarations of interest in the top seat have never translated into a serious, broad-based campaign beyond his regional stronghold, and he advised the Speaker and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to focus their attention on future cycles instead.

The lawmaker made it clear that the Luhya community cannot afford to sit on the sidelines in the 2027 presidential race. He announced that his political group, aligned with DAP-K, is actively preparing to present a strong Luhya candidate to directly challenge President William Ruto. Wamboka stressed that the Luhya people possess both the population size and capable leaders to mount a credible bid for the presidency, arguing that the community must seize the opportunity to compete for national leadership rather than remain observers.

Wamboka also cast doubt on any notion that President Ruto would hand over power to Wetang’ula, pointing out that the President has his own succession strategy and that other ethnic groups are already maneuvering for control of the country’s top office. On the local front, he highlighted his three-year record in Bumula, particularly in supporting education, and defended the role of NG-CDF in driving visible grassroots development. He welcomed the recent Court of Appeal decision affirming the constitutionality of the NG-CDF fund and called for fair distribution of national resources, noting disparities such as neglected roads in Bungoma compared to major projects in other regions. Wamboka urged President Ruto to ensure balanced development across the country to prevent certain areas from being left behind.
