DCP's Sammy Kamau Ngotho Secures Victory in Ol Kalou By-Election

Sammy Kamau Ngotho of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has emerged victorious in the Ol Kalou by-election, securing a commanding lead with 35,440 votes.
This decisive win positions him as the new representative for the constituency in Nyandarua County, following a poll that drew significant national interest. His strong performance reflects strong local backing for the DCP ticket, especially after weeks of energetic outreach to residents across various wards. The result marks an important milestone for the area as it chooses new leadership to address ongoing community priorities.
The contest saw Ngotho comfortably defeat the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who received 5,450 votes, while the Jubilee Party aspirant finished in third place. Held on Thursday and declared early Friday morning by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the by-election was prompted by the untimely death of the former Member of Parliament. Voting day was unfortunately disrupted by incidents of violence, including reports of armed individuals in unmarked vehicles clashing with crowds and security personnel deploying teargas at some polling stations, resulting in injuries. Despite these challenges, the process highlighted the determination of voters to shape their future.
This parliamentary race evolved into a notable test of influence between major political formations in the Mt Kenya region, with heavy campaigning that included rallies and direct engagements with the electorate. Ngotho, a former MCA with deep roots in the area, built his appeal on promises of dedicated service and fresh approaches to local development. Allegations of financial inducements surfaced during the period, adding intensity to the competition viewed by many as a preview of broader political trends. His victory for the party linked to Rigathi Gachagua signals momentum that could reshape strategies looking toward the 2027 elections.
With the official results now in, focus shifts to how Ngotho will deliver on expectations for the people of Ol Kalou. Political voices from different sides have started offering congratulations, emphasizing the need for collaboration as the constituency moves forward. This outcome not only concludes a fiercely fought battle but also opens the door for renewed efforts on infrastructure, livelihoods, and inclusive growth. Residents anticipate that the new MP will prioritize tangible improvements to everyday life in the area.
