Teso South Member of Parliament Mary Emaase has become the latest leader in Busia County to publicly declare support for former Governor Sospeter Ojaamong's reported bid for the county's Senate seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a live interview on Busia Border Radio, Emaase said Ojaamong's wealth of leadership experience could greatly benefit Busia if he returns to elective politics. She revealed that her support follows a recent political reconciliation and declaration ceremony held at Ojaamong's Okilidu home, where he reportedly announced his intention to contest for the Busia Senate seat. The event was attended by Busia Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma, a move that Emaase described as a positive step towards fostering unity among leaders in the county.

The legislator expressed confidence that a working relationship between Ojaamong and Governor Otuoma would help strengthen efforts to champion President William Ruto's development agenda in Busia. According to Emaase, leaders who work together and maintain a close relationship with the national government are better placed to lobby for projects and resources that directly improve the lives of residents.

She noted that such cooperation could pave the way for more investments in key sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment programmes, ultimately accelerating development across the county.

Emaase also reaffirmed her support for President William Ruto, stating that she is ready to work with and support any leader who is committed to advancing the president's agenda. She emphasized that her focus remains on ensuring the people of Busia benefit from government development initiatives, regardless of political considerations.

Her endorsement comes at a time when political realignments are beginning to emerge across Busia County as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls. Ojaamong, who served as Busia's first governor from 2013 to 2022, has recently been linked to a Senate bid, a move that is expected to reshape the county's political landscape in the coming months.

As the race towards 2027 gradually gains momentum, Emaase's remarks are likely to fuel further discussions on the alliances and partnerships that could define Busia's future political direction and development priorities.
