From Lion to Orange : Osore’s Bold Political shift

Ford Kenya’s political standing in Busia County has taken another hit following the move by former County Chairman Emmanuel Osore to align himself with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), as he prepares to contest the Matayos parliamentary seat in the next General Election.

Adressing the press, Osore said his decision followed extensive consultations with residents and stakeholders across Matayos Constituency. He noted that the discussions consistently highlighted the need for stronger, more responsive leadership focused on development and service delivery.

He explained that his political shift is aimed at positioning Matayos for better representation and accelerated development, emphasizing that leadership must be closely aligned with the needs and aspirations of ordinary citizens.

“I have listened carefully to the people of Matayos,Their priorities are clear—better services, opportunities for young people, improved infrastructure, and leadership that is accessible and accountable.”

Osore confirmed his intention to seek the Matayos parliamentary seat under ODM, expressing confidence in the party’s organizational strength and grassroots network, which he believes will support his political ambitions.

He dismissed claims that ODM’s influence in the region is weakening, insisting that the party remains a dominant force capable of mobilizing support and driving development-focused leadership.

"My entry into ODM was a collective decision by the people of Matayos, and also my personal choice. Together, we arrived at that resolution. I have served as the ODM County Chairperson — these are the credentials I hold within the ODM party." ~ Emmanuel Osore.

The announcement was welcomed by a section of former Ford Kenya members who pledged to follow Osore into ODM. Led by David Onyango and Doreen Wanyama, the group said they had served the party at the grassroots level for years but felt increasingly sidelined and overlooked.

They argued that despite their loyalty and long-standing commitment, they had not witnessed meaningful political or developmental progress within Ford Kenya, prompting their decision to embrace a new political direction.

The supporters pledged full backing for Osore’s bid, expressing confidence in his leadership experience and his strong connection with the people of Matayos.

As political alignments continue to shift across Busia County, Osore has called on residents to rally behind development-focused leadership ahead of the elections.

His move is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in Matayos, setting up a highly competitive contest in the upcoming General Election.
