Gachagua Boycotts Ng'eno's Burial Over Alleged Hypocrisy

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has opted not to attend the burial of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng'eno, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash late last month.

In a heartfelt yet pointed tribute, Gachagua described the late legislator as a dear friend, trusted confidant, and steadfast political ally who fearlessly advocated for his community's rights despite facing significant opposition and marginalization. He mourned Ng'eno's passing as a profound loss to Kenya, emphasizing the MP's courage and outspoken nature throughout his career.

Gachagua made it clear that his decision to stay away stemmed from deeply held principles, refusing to share space with individuals he believes persecuted and humiliated Ng'eno while he was alive. He sharply criticized what he called the hypocrisy of certain leaders now publicly expressing grief, accusing them of shedding "crocodile tears" after previously hunting and tormenting the MP like prey. This stance highlights ongoing political tensions, particularly linked to past events such as the impeachment process where Ng'eno reportedly faced pressure to vote against Gachagua.

The burial ceremony in Emurua Dikirr proceeded with high-profile attendance from President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, and other senior officials. Despite his absence, Gachagua's message served as a strong posthumous endorsement of Ng'eno's legacy as a bold defender of the marginalized, while underscoring his unwillingness to participate in what he views as insincere mourning by those he holds responsible for the MP's earlier hardships.
