KeRRA Issues Nyandarua Road Tenders Days After Senator Methu’s Public Challenge to President Ruto

The Kenya Rural Roads Authority has released tender notices for the improvement of several important roads in Nyandarua County, just days after Senator John Methu openly urged President William Ruto to speed up stalled development projects in the area.

The timing of the announcement has drawn attention from locals, who see it as a possible response to the senator’s direct comments made during a public gathering. This move could mark the start of long-awaited upgrades that many residents have been hoping for over the past few years.

During a memorial service held in Ol Kalou on April 8 for the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho, Senator Methu used the occasion to highlight the lack of progress on key roads in Nyandarua. He reminded the president of earlier promises made in 2022 to improve the Murungaru to Tulasha to Gilgil route, questioning why the work had not yet begun despite repeated government assurances. His straightforward remarks at the event, attended by many community members, brought the issue of delayed infrastructure into the spotlight and called for stronger leadership in addressing local needs.

The tenders now cover the upgrading of the Murungaru–Tulasha–Gilgil Road, which serves as a vital link between parts of Nyandarua and neighboring counties, as well as the Gwa Ishangai–Kitogo–Kamba–Mutarakwa road that passes by Mutamaiyu Primary and Secondary School. These projects are among a larger group of 62 road upgrades planned across the country. Interested construction companies can obtain the necessary documents free of charge from the authority’s website starting April 16, with an update already issued to clarify project details and ensure a smooth process.

This development comes at a time when communities in Nyandarua have expressed growing frustration over poor road conditions that affect daily travel, trade, and access to services. While the authority regularly announces such opportunities, the quick follow-up after the senator’s public appeal has sparked discussions about how open criticism can influence government action on grassroots issues. Residents hope the tenders will lead to actual construction soon, bringing better connectivity and economic opportunities to the region.
