Lupesia Criticises Atwoli and Oparanya Over Labour Day Remarks

Political analyst Abdulahi Lupesia has strongly criticised COTU Leader Francis Atwoli and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya for their statements during Labour Day celebrations.

During Labour Day celebrations in Vihiga County, the two leaders described the Western region as having reached a point of notable achievement, using the term "tutam" to suggest progress and support for continued leadership of President William Ruto. Lupesia described these claims as out of step with current conditions on the ground.

Speaking at a burial ceremony, Lupesia argued that the optimistic declarations did not match the everyday experiences of many residents. He pointed to ongoing shortfalls in service delivery, such as inadequate infrastructure, limited job opportunities, and gaps in essential public services. According to him, portraying the region as fully developed overlooks the real struggles faced by families and workers who continue to deal with pressing economic and social challenges.

As a regular contributor to the Jukwaa la Sasa morning show alongside Professor Nyukuri Barasa, Lupesia often stresses the importance of focusing on practical priorities like quality healthcare, reliable security, economic growth, and agricultural development. His comments at the funeral aligned with this approach, urging leaders to address concrete issues rather than relying on celebratory slogans during national events. He called for greater attention to the needs of ordinary citizens across Western Kenya.

Lupesia’s remarks have added to wider discussions about the role of political messaging in the region. By voicing concerns over perceived disconnects between public statements and lived realities, he has highlighted the value of honest dialogue. His contributions through radio and public forums continue to shape conversations on governance and development priorities in Western Kenya.
