Malala Pushes Sifuna to be Given the Deputy President Position.

Cleophas Malala, deputy leader of the Democratic Congress Party, has thrown his support behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for the deputy president position in a potential united opposition ticket for the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Saturday, Malala argued that the Luhya community should claim the running mate slot while allowing other leaders like Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, or Fred Matiang'i to compete for the top job. He emphasized that the Western region is not eyeing the presidency but is firm on securing the deputy role.
Malala proposed Sifuna as the ideal candidate from the Luhya community, stating that if the opposition chooses another presidential flag bearer, they should back Sifuna as deputy. He added that if Sifuna is not selected, the position should go to another Luhya leader like Eugene Wamalwa. The remarks come as Sifuna continues to play a prominent role in the Linda Mwananchi movement, which opposes President William Ruto's re-election bid.
The endorsement adds to ongoing discussions and speculation about possible alliances within the opposition ahead of the next general election. Earlier claims by Dennis Itumbi had suggested a possible Kalonzo-Sifuna pairing, though such coalitions remain fluid as different leaders position themselves. Malala's comments highlight the push for regional balance and representation in any united front.
As political realignments continue, Sifuna's rising profile makes him a key figure to watch. The call for unity among opposition voices reflects efforts to build a strong challenge in 2027, with community interests playing a central part in ticket formations. Many are keenly following how these proposals will shape the emerging political landscape.
