Mbadi Rules Out 2027 Election Bid

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has firmly closed the door on contesting any seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The seasoned politician stated that he has made a deliberate choice to stay away from elective politics for now and focus on his current responsibilities in government. Mbadi expressed confidence in President William Ruto's re-election chances and hopes to receive another appointment to continue serving the country after August 2027.
Speaking during a television interview, Mbadi made it clear that his decision is final. He intends to remain in his role as Treasury CS possibly until after the elections, emphasizing his commitment to national duties rather than personal political campaigns. This announcement comes after earlier speculation about potential runs for positions such as the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat, which he has also dismissed.
With a rich background in politics, including years as a Member of Parliament and party strategist, Mbadi reflected on his journey and shared bigger ambitions for the future. He noted his unsuccessful 2022 bid for governor and stressed that he now aims only to rise higher, with an eye on leading the country one day. His move from opposition ranks to the current administration highlights a significant shift in the political landscape.
Mbadi's comments underscore his dedication to public service built over three decades in various roles, from academia to international finance and legislation. As the country prepares for the next electoral cycle, his stance adds an interesting dimension to ongoing discussions about loyalty, ambition, and leadership within the government. Many observers will be watching how this decision influences political alignments in the months ahead.
