ODM invites applications for presidential aspirants, other posts in 2027 polls

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially kicked off its candidate search for the 2027 general elections, calling on interested individuals to submit applications for top national and local positions.

Through its National Elections Coordinating Committee, the party is seeking aspirants for president, governor, senator, woman representative, member of parliament, and county assembly roles. This early move positions ODM as an active player in shaping the political landscape well ahead of the polls, giving potential candidates ample time to declare their intentions.

Aspirants now have until June 30, 2026, to apply through the party’s official online portal, as announced by Emily Awita, chairperson of the National Elections Coordinating Committee. Once the application window closes, successful nominees will proceed to competitive party primaries, where winners will earn the right to fly the ODM flag in the general election. The structured process aims to ensure transparency and give members a voice in selecting strong contenders across all elective seats.

This development follows a similar exercise by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which earlier attracted over 12,000 aspirants for various positions. ODM’s invitation reflects the intensifying preparations among major parties as Kenya gears up for what promises to be a highly competitive 2027 race. It also signals the party’s determination to rebuild momentum and field credible candidates at every level of government.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, political observers expect a flurry of activity from other parties in the coming months. For ODM, successfully navigating this nomination phase could prove crucial in consolidating support and presenting a united front. The coming weeks will reveal the level of interest the party generates and the quality of leaders stepping forward to contest under its banner.
