ODM Leaders Accuse Uhuru of Plot to Split Party

Senior figures in the Orange Democratic Movement have raised strong concerns over internal divisions within the party, pointing fingers at a breakaway group they believe is being influenced from outside.

The accusations centre on the Linda Mwananchi faction, which they claim is serving the interests of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta rather than ordinary citizens. This latest political drama unfolded during a community event aimed at supporting women and boda boda operators, highlighting ongoing tensions as different camps within ODM jostle for control ahead of future elections.

The claims come from prominent ODM voices including Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who addressed supporters in Kileleshwa Ward within Dagoretti North constituency. They dismissed the rival group's self-proclaimed role as protectors of the people, arguing instead that the real motive is to shield personal wealth and create rifts in the party. According to the leaders, such moves undermine the unity that has long been ODM's strength in the country, especially in key regions like Nairobi where political battles are intensifying.

In the same breath, the ODM team challenged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's allies, warning against any attempts to encroach on what they see as their traditional strongholds. Junet made it clear that Nairobi remains firmly in ODM territory and invited open competition at the ballot box. This bold stance reflects the party's determination to maintain its influence amid shifting alliances and growing competition from other political formations across the country.

Meanwhile, the gathering also served as a platform to celebrate recent empowerment initiatives, with officials defending the distribution of funds to local communities, particularly in Nyanza. Leaders like Wandayi and Budget Committee Chair Sam Atandi emphasised that such programmes are essential for development and that they will continue to channel resources where needed. As Kenya's political landscape heats up, these events underscore the blend of community service and strategic positioning that defines party activities in the lead-up to major polls.
