ODM Seeks Equal Power-Sharing Deal Ahead of 2027 Elections

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who also serves as chairperson of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has stated that her party will push for a balanced agreement when discussing the formation of the next government.
Speaking to residents in Homa Bay, she explained that ODM plans to negotiate on a 50-50 basis with potential partners. This means that if one side secures the presidency, the other would take the deputy presidency, ensuring both parties have an equal share of key leadership positions.
Governor Wanga made it clear that the talks would not focus only on dividing offices. She stressed that ODM would also address important matters that affect ordinary Kenyans, such as daily challenges faced by citizens. The party received approval from its members during a recent special delegates’ conference to begin these discussions. Wanga added that ODM remains strong, with most of its elected leaders staying loyal to the current leadership even after the 2027 polls.
The governor dismissed any suggestions of weakness within ODM and rejected the idea of working with groups she described as divisive. She said the party would not engage with those who split people along ethnic lines or rely on insults. Instead, ODM aims to build partnerships based on fairness and a genuine focus on national issues as Kenya prepares for the next general election. This position highlights the party’s confidence as it strengthens its presence at the community level while preparing for future political arrangements.
