OPPOSITION LEADERS WARN OF POTENTIAL 2027 ELECTION RIGGING.

Opposition figures are now calling for a complete revamp of the electoral technology that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intends to deploy for the 2027 General Election.

Addressing supporters in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, the leaders expressed deep reservations about the decision to renew the contract with Smartmatic, the technology provider, stating that they lack trust in the company to manage Kenya's 2027 polls.

The opposition has fiercely criticized the planned electoral technology for the upcoming 2027 elections.

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi, who joined the opposition leaders in Kipipiri, voiced alarms over the renewal of the contract with the firm, which they accuse of mishandling the 2022 General Election.

The opposition alleges that officials from the company have been conducting purported covert meetings in Nairobi, further casting doubt on the integrity of the 2027 elections.

They also claim that available evidence indicates the Venezuelan-linked technology is prone to tampering and has been involved in electoral irregularities. Muturi noted that over the weekend of July 5 and 6, Marjan and Kamargo were involved in unrevealed engagements at State House. The opposition leaders declared,

"This company, Smartmatic, must be rejected. We cannot accept it."

The figures charged IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan with unlawfully prolonging the tenure of the election technology provider and are demanding that the extension be canceled.Marjan signed an extension for Smartmatic to manage the upcoming election.

The opposition leaders stated, "We totally oppose this and we want it revoked."The opposition figures also brushed off the proposed trip to Singapore, calling it a distraction.
