Rigathi Gachagua Tasks Malala to Lead DCP's 2026 Plan Implementation Amid Fallout Rumours
In a clear show of unity and forward momentum, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially ratified the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)'s ambitious Plan of Action for 2026, following a productive three-day strategic retreat in Mombasa with party legislators and key allies.
The ratification was confirmed by Gachagua himself, who emphasized the collaborative spirit of the gathering. He explicitly entrusted Senator Cleophas Malala, DCP's Deputy Party Leader, with the crucial responsibility of spearheading the full implementation of the plan throughout the year.
Gachagua stated: "After a 3-day retreat with like-minded legislators, this morning, with the DCP PARTY Deputy Party Leader, we have ratified the Plan of Action for the year. I have tasked Senator Cleophas Malala to spearhead the implementation of this Action on behalf of the party."
This decisive appointment comes against a backdrop of persistent speculation about a potential rift between the two leaders, fueled by Malala's brief absence from some public appearances during the early stages of the retreat. Despite the rumours—including reports suggesting possible defection back to UDA—the move appears designed to silence doubters and project strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
The 2026 Action Plan is expected to focus on aggressive grassroots mobilization, policy refinement, regional expansion (particularly in Mount Kenya and Western Kenya), and positioning DCP as a formidable force to challenge the ruling coalition in the next general election.
Political observers will be watching closely to see how effectively this plan rolls out—and whether the apparent unity holds firm amid Kenya's ever-dynamic political landscape.
