RUTO : Affordable Housing Programme Is Generating Jobs For More Than 640,000 Young People.

President William Ruto has praised the Affordable Housing Programme for transforming lives across the country by creating employment opportunities for over 640,000 young people.
The initiative not only builds new homes but also establishes modern markets, boosting local economies and providing better living spaces for families.
During a recent address in Kitui, the President emphasized how this effort is addressing both shelter needs and unemployment challenges in a practical way.
In Kitui County, the programme has received a significant Sh15 billion allocation to support housing development. This funding will deliver 1,000 affordable units in Manyenyoni and close to 400 more in Mwingi, bringing much-needed homes to residents. These projects reflect a broader national commitment to expanding access to decent shelter while stimulating construction-related activities that employ thousands.
Beyond housing, the government is constructing 20 new markets in Kitui to give traders well-equipped, modern spaces for business. These facilities aim to improve trading conditions, enhance sanitation, and support small-scale entrepreneurs who form the backbone of local commerce. The President noted that such developments create additional income streams and contribute to organized urban growth.
The Affordable Housing Programme stands as a key pillar in the country’s development agenda, linking job creation with infrastructure gains. By focusing on youth employment and community facilities, it promises long-term benefits that strengthen families, local businesses, and overall economic stability. Leaders continue to urge faster implementation to reach more regions and deliver on these ambitious goals.
