Salasya Urges Natembeya to Stick with DAP-K Ahead of 2027

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has cautioned Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya against quitting the Democratic Action Party of Kenya to join a new outfit tied to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In a strongly worded message on his X account, Salasya described the potential move as politically risky, especially in Western Kenya where Bukusu voters hold significant sway. He stressed the importance of long-standing alliances in the region as parties gear up for the next general election.
“My brother and friend, Governor George Natembeya, should think very carefully before leaving DAP-K Party to form a new political party alongside Edwin Sifuna. In my view, that would be a politically risky move,” Salasya wrote. He pointed out that Sifuna lacks the deep influence in Bukusu land enjoyed by figures like Eugene Wamalwa, who has cultivated strong goodwill over the years. Salasya warned that ditching established ties could lead to heavy losses at the ballot.
The MP highlighted a crowded field in Trans Nzoia, with DAP-K, Ford Kenya, and UDA all likely to field candidates. “If Natembeya parts ways with Eugene, he risks losing a significant section of the Bukusu vote in Trans Nzoia,” he added. Salasya advised lowering political tensions and focusing on building bridges instead of rivalry, noting that relying heavily on newer alliances might not guarantee victory in the governor’s race.
Salasya’s intervention comes as Western Kenya sees shifting loyalties under the Linda Mwananchi movement, with some leaders backing Sifuna and planning a new party vehicle. These realignments are stirring debates about unity and strategy ahead of 2027. For Natembeya, the warning underscores the delicate balance of loyalty, regional support, and electoral math in a highly competitive political landscape across the country.
